Mechanical, Civil and ECE Fresher Resume: Sample, Tools and Project Bullets
Quick answer: A mechanical, civil or ECE fresher resume in India should be one page with your degree and CGPA, branch-specific software and technical skills (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, STAAD Pro, MATLAB or Embedded C), your final-year and mini projects, industrial training or internships, and any GATE score. Core companies want proof of practical knowledge, so name the tools, standards and results in each project.
What do core engineering companies look for in a fresher resume?
Manufacturing, construction, design and electronics companies hire freshers as graduate engineer trainees (GETs), site engineers, design engineers or trainee engineers. They usually check your branch and CGPA, the software you can use, your industrial training or in-plant training, and your final-year project. Workshop work, site visits, college clubs like SAE or robotics teams, and NPTEL courses also help.
Your resume should show these clearly on one page. For the general fresher layout, see resume format for freshers in India.

How do I write engineering project bullets? (3 examples)
Use the pattern action verb + what you designed or built + tools + result. These numbers are examples only.
- Mechanical: Designed a vacuum gripper in SolidWorks and checked the mounting bracket in ANSYS; fabricated it in the college workshop for about ₹6,500, and it lifted objects up to 2 kg in testing.
- Civil: Analysed and designed a G+3 residential building in STAAD Pro as per IS 456 and IS 875, prepared AutoCAD drawings and a quantity estimate for concrete and steel, as a team of 4.
- ECE: Built an IoT-based soil moisture monitoring system using ESP32, Embedded C and a capacitive sensor; sent readings to a mobile dashboard every 10 minutes and tested it on a college garden plot for 3 weeks.

Should I add my GATE score and apply to PSUs?
Yes, if you have a valid GATE score. Several PSUs have used GATE scores to shortlist graduate engineer trainees, but rules change each year, so always read the official notification for the branch, cut-off and score validity. Write your GATE year, paper, score and All India Rank under education.
PSU and government applications often have their own forms and formats, and some ask for a biodata. Our guide on resume format for government and PSU jobs explains what to include.
What are common mistakes on engineering fresher resumes?
- Listing software you only saw once. If you cannot open SolidWorks or STAAD Pro and do a basic task in an interview, leave it out.
- Project titles with no details. "Solar car" says little. Add your role, tools and one result.
- Hiding industrial training. In-plant training and site visits are valuable for core roles, so give them their own section.
- Applying to IT and core jobs with the same resume. For core roles, put branch skills first. For IT roles, put coding first.
- Skill bars, photos and two-column templates. Many systems read single-column text more reliably.
- Not writing which part you did in a team project. Interviewers will ask.
- Adding a GATE score that has expired or not mentioning the year.

Frequently asked questions
Is AutoCAD enough for a civil or mechanical fresher?
It is a good start, but most roles also want one more tool, such as STAAD Pro for civil or SolidWorks for mechanical, plus practical site or plant exposure.
Should ECE students add both embedded and VLSI skills?
Add what you have truly practised. If you are applying for VLSI roles, put Verilog and simulation tools first; for embedded roles, put Embedded C and microcontrollers first.
Where should I put my GATE score?
Under education, as a separate line with the year, paper, score and All India Rank.
Does in-plant training count as experience?
Yes, for a fresher. List it under industrial training or internships with the company, dates and what you learned.
Can a mechanical, civil or ECE fresher apply for IT jobs?
Yes. Many service companies hire from all branches. Make a separate version that leads with programming skills and coding projects.
